About John Hollins

John Hollins Jr. began his legal journey in the classrooms of Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1984. He stayed in the region for law school and received his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1987. Those formative years set the stage for a long career in Tennessee courts and beyond.

After graduating, Hollins gained admission to practice in Tennessee in 1987. He holds credentials in multiple federal and state venues, including the Supreme Court of the State of Tennessee, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. Over the decades that followed, he has maintained active memberships in key professional organizations. He joined the Nashville Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association in 1987 and continues those associations today.

Hollins’s career is shaped by courtroom practice. His long-standing ties to trial lawyer organizations reflect steady involvement in litigation and trial work. Colleagues describe him as experienced in handling contested matters before juries and judges. He has litigated in state trial courts and in federal forums, and his admissions to appellate courts allow him to carry cases through the appeals process when necessary.

He has worked on cases that required federal filings and practice in the Sixth Circuit, and he is admitted to the highest court in the country. Those admissions expand the venues where he can represent clients and argue substantive legal issues. Across matters, he has combined practical courtroom experience with an understanding of procedural requirements at multiple levels of the system.

Hollins practices at Thompson Burton PLLC. There he continues to represent clients in civil litigation and trial matters. He remains active in bar and trial associations and practices regularly in Tennessee and in federal courts that serve the region.

He currently practices at Thompson Burton PLLC, focusing on civil litigation and trial work.
