About John
John Freeman graduated from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 1993. He is admitted to practice in Michigan and has spent his career working in both public offices and private practice. His legal education set the stage for a steady progression through trial and federal offices before he opened his own practice.
His first post after law school was with the New York County District Lawyers Office, where he began as an Assistant District Lawyer in 1993. That role was followed by a move into federal work. In 2000 he joined the United States Lawyers Office as an Assistant United States Lawyer. Those positions framed his early years in the courtroom and brought exposure to a range of criminal matters at different levels of government.
In 2007 Freeman founded his own practice and became the managing lawyer at the Law Office of John Freeman, PLLC. He has kept that role since then, handling matters that draw on his years in public service. In 2010 he took on an additional capacity as a Legal Services Plan Lawyer for the Fraternal Order of Police. He also serves as an instructor for the National Rifle Association, a position he has held since 2009.
Freeman’s professional memberships reflect a mix of criminal justice and firearms organizations. He has been a member of the American Bar Association’s White Collar Crime Committee and its Criminal Justice Section since 2009. He joined the Criminal Defense Lawyers of Michigan in 2008. He is also a member of the International Defensive Pistol Association. These affiliations suggest particular professional interests but do not define the full scope of his practice.
Those who have observed Freeman’s career note that he has moved between roles that prosecute and roles that defend, and that range has informed his approach to case work. He maintains a private law practice in Michigan and continues to work on criminal and related legal matters.
He is active in local and national bar organizations and maintains his private practice as managing lawyer at the Law Office of John Freeman, PLLC, where he handles criminal defense and related matters.
