About John Erik

John Erik Fraker built a legal foundation over a decade that combined broad liberal arts study with advanced legal training. He completed a B.A. in History and Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley in 1991. He earned his J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1995, and returned to study tax law at Golden Gate University School of Law, receiving an LL.M. in Taxation in 2002.

Fraker entered private practice after law school and eventually took on an ownership role in 2002. That year he became Owner and Partner at Ainer & Fraker, LLP. His work has been set in California, where he is licensed to practice and where his firm maintains an office in Oakland. Over time his responsibilities have included client counseling, document drafting, and overseeing matters that intersect state and federal tax rules.

His training in taxation and his years in estate practice shape the kinds of matters he handles. He prepares wills and trusts, advises on estate and gift tax considerations, and assists clients through probate and trust administration. He also works on planning that takes tax consequences into account, helping people and families structure transfers and holdings in ways intended to meet their legal and financial objectives. Fraker’s practice involves both advising during life and guiding executors and trustees after someone dies.

Colleagues and clients see him in the office in Oakland, where Ainer & Fraker maintains a practice focused on estate planning and related tax issues. He balances transactional work—such as drafting trust instruments and family agreements—with administrative matters, including probate filings and trust administration tasks. He draws on formal tax training when matters require analysis of federal and state tax provisions.

After more than two decades in practice and academic work that includes an advanced tax degree, Fraker continues to serve clients in California. He practices estate planning and tax-sensitive estate administration at Ainer & Fraker, LLP, operating from the firm’s Oakland office and advising clients across the state on wills, trusts, probate, and related tax questions.
