During his time at Santa Clara, he was awarded the Best Brief for Appellants at the Pace Environmental Moot Court Competition, which was published in the Pace Environmental Law Review in the Spring 1994 edition. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Irvine, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Ecology in 1990. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude, with a dual focus on law and environmental studies.

Throughout his career, Mr. Russell has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Sacramento and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as a Judicial Research Attorney for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County, where he researched and prepared judicial memos in civil law cases. He also served as an associate attorney at Hopkins & Carley in San Jose, focusing on business litigation matters, including intellectual property and contract disputes.
