John Drennan was a prominent criminal defense attorney based in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from The Citadel in 1987, where he distinguished himself by receiving the James K. Coleman Award for Excellence in Constitutional Law. This early recognition highlighted his commitment to the principles of justice and legal integrity. In 1990, Drennan obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was honored with an American Jurisprudence Award for his academic achievements. After passing the South Carolina Bar, Drennan began his legal career in an unexpected way—he served as a certified patrol officer for the Town of Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
