About John D

John D Mattox earned his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law, completing his studies in 2016 after beginning law school in 2013. He built his legal foundation at KU, where classroom training and practical exercises shaped his early approach to litigation and appellate work. The law school years also introduced him to professional circles he would later join.

After law school he undertook the steps necessary to practice law in Kansas. He is admitted to practice in Kansas and also holds admission to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Those credentials allow him to handle matters that start in state court and proceed to federal appellate review.

Mattox is a long-standing member of the Kansas Bar Association, a membership he has held since 2013. He maintains active ties to the bar and participates in the kinds of professional networks that keep attorneys current on procedural and substantive developments. That connection to the statewide bar has informed both his courtroom work and his practice outside the courthouse.

He is currently an attorney at Hampton & Royce L.C. The firm provides the platform for his day-to-day practice. At Hampton & Royce L.C. he prepares filings, argues motions, and represents clients in contested matters. His work spans appearances in Kansas state courts and in federal forums that fall within the Tenth Circuit’s jurisdiction.

Colleagues describe him as focused on clear legal analysis and careful case preparation. He approaches each file by breaking down the legal issues and mapping the procedural path forward. That methodical approach shapes how he handles discovery, briefing, and oral argument. He also spends time reviewing appellate strategy when matters carry the potential for review by the Tenth Circuit.

Outside of courtroom appearances, Mattox devotes attention to the practical details that affect clients: evidence development, evidentiary rulings, and the timing of appeals. He balances those tasks against courtroom deadlines and the cadence of appellate practice. His record includes work on cases that required coordination across trial and appellate phases.

His practice is rooted in procedural competence and courtroom preparation. He presently practices at Hampton & Royce L.C., representing clients in state and federal matters, including proceedings in the Tenth Circuit.
