About John
John Calvin grew up interested in how systems work and went on to study Technical and Interdisciplinary Studies at Wayne State University, where he earned a B.A. in 2008. He continued his education at the University of Michigan Law School and received his J.D. in 2010. Those years framed his approach to practice: methodical, practical, and centered on problem-solving.
Calvin entered private practice after law school and by 2018 was working at Hirzel Law, PLC as a lawyer. That same year he also served of counsel at Cummings, McClorey, Davis & Acho, P.L.C., a role that expanded his experience in the courtroom and at the negotiating table. His time in those positions exposed him to a wide range of client needs and the rhythms of day-to-day firm work.
Over the course of his career he has balanced firm responsibilities with advisory roles. Serving of counsel allowed him to consult on matters that required targeted legal review. Working as a firm lawyer required managing cases from intake through disposition. Those complementary experiences shaped the way he organizes client work and allocates resources for cases.
Calvin maintains active professional association membership; he participates in professional activities that keep him abreast of developments in the law. Colleagues note that he prefers direct communication and practical solutions. He approaches legal problems by breaking them into clear steps, then tackling each step in sequence. That style tends to appeal to clients who want a steady, predictable process.
He now practices from the Calvin Law Center. The office serves as the hub for his private practice work. There he handles client matters that arise from the variety of roles he has held, drawing on his courtroom experience and his time providing counsel to other firms. His practice emphasizes careful case management and clear client communication.
John Calvin continues to take on matters that align with his experience and interests. He remains active in the professional community and sees his role as helping clients navigate legal processes efficiently. He currently represents clients through his practice at the Calvin Law Center, where his work focuses on the matters he has handled throughout his career.
