About John C.

John C. Shea built his legal foundation at Wake Forest University, where he completed a B.A. in 1974. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Richmond in 1977. Those years set the stage for a long career that has remained anchored in trial work.

He moved into practice after law school and gravitated toward courtroom advocacy. Over time his professional affiliations reflected that trajectory. He holds membership in the Virginia Bar Association and serves as a state delegate to the American Association for Justice. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Association of Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America. Those connections have kept him engaged with peers who try cases and who handle complex litigation involving transportation and tort claims.

His work over the decades has combined courtroom time with continuing involvement in professional organizations. Serving as a state delegate to a national trial group has put him in the company of trial lawyers who exchange strategies and critique each other’s approaches to litigation and trial procedure. Participation in the American Board of Trial Advocates signals sustained involvement in jury trials, while membership in the trucking lawyers association points to experience handling incidents that involve commercial carriers and interstate transportation issues.

Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and thorough in preparation. He has handled matters that required coordinating expert testimony, managing discovery in technically complex cases, and presenting evidence to juries. Those responsibilities have shaped a practice style that emphasizes presence at trial and hands-on case development.

Throughout his career he has remained active in the bar and in trial-focused groups. That activity has kept him current on procedural developments, evidence law, and the changing landscape of transportation litigation. It has also provided a forum for mentoring younger lawyers and for contributing to the professional community in Virginia and beyond.

He is currently based at Marks & Harrison, where he continues to try cases and to work on litigation involving trucking and other trial matters. He currently practices trial litigation, including cases involving interstate trucking.
