About John C. Neiman
John C — Neiman Jr. is a seasoned appellate attorney based in Birmingham, Alabama. He has been a member of the Alabama State Bar since 2000. Currently, he serves as a shareholder and chair of the Appellate Practice Group at Maynard Nexsen PC, a position he has held since 2014.
Neiman earned his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2000, where he was the Supreme Court Chair of the Harvard Law Review. Prior to that, he graduated with highest honors and highest distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Before joining Maynard Nexsen, Neiman served as the Alabama Solicitor General from 2011 to 2014, representing the state in appellate matters. His earlier career includes roles as a partner at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP from 2002 to 2011, and as a law clerk to the Honorable Anthony M.
Kennedy at the U.S. Supreme Court from 2001 to 2002. In addition to his practice, Neiman has contributed to legal education as an adjunct professor at Samford University from 2009 to 2010 and as an assistant professor at the University of Georgia from 2005 to 2007. He has also been recognized by Best Lawyers® as "Lawyer of the Year" for Appellate Practice in 2017 and 2021.
Neiman is a member of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and has been recognized in Chambers USA as a Band 1 leading attorney in Appellate Litigation in Alabama. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association. He is fluent in English and conversational Spanish.
