About John
John Baker grew up studying history and languages before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with minors in German and Public Service from Hampden-Sydney College, completing that degree in 2006. He later took up legal studies at the University of Mississippi, where he received his Juris Doctor in 2010.
He began his legal career in 2010 at Fraim & Fiorella, P.C., where he worked on civil matters, gaining courtroom exposure and experience in claim development. In 2018 he moved to Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers as an associate attorney. Four years later the firm made him a partner. The trajectory shows steady advancement through hands-on casework and increasing responsibility.
Baker’s practice centers on claims arising from accidents and physical injury. At Cooper Hurley he handles both pretrial negotiations and contested matters in court. He has taken cases through discovery and to trial settings, focusing on obtaining compensation for clients who suffered loss or injury. He works on typical personal injury matters: automobile collisions, premises liability, and similar civil claims that involve bodily harm.
Courtroom work is a regular part of his professional life. He prepares witnesses, examines medical evidence and coordinates with experts. He also spends time on client intake and strategy, explaining legal options and potential outcomes in straightforward terms. Colleagues describe his approach as methodical; he prioritizes building a factual record and testing legal theories early.
Outside the office he maintains ties to the legal community. He holds memberships in the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association. Those affiliations keep him connected to regional practice trends and local court procedures.
Baker divides his time across several Cooper Hurley locations in the Hampton Roads area. He is based in the firm’s main office and meets clients at regional meeting locations in Chesapeake, Newport News, the Eastern Shore, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Hampton. That regional presence allows him to handle cases across multiple jurisdictions and attend hearings in local courts.
His work emphasizes litigation and client counseling in personal injury matters. He continues to represent individuals who have been injured, pursuing remedies through negotiation and trial when necessary.
He currently practices at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers and handles personal injury litigation across the Hampton Roads region.
