About John
John Arsenault earned his J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2005, where he concentrated on intellectual property. That academic background set the direction for his legal career. He followed the specialized coursework at Oregon with registration as a patent lawyer in 2009.
After becoming registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Arsenault moved into practice that combined technology and IP issues. He handled matters before the USPTO and appeared in federal court. His admissions include the State of Colorado and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, alongside his standing before the Patent Office.
In 2012 he took an in-house role as general counsel for Private Internet Access, Inc. The position put him at the intersection of privacy, network operations, and intellectual property concerns. He oversaw commercial agreements, compliance tasks, and disputes that involved both technical and legal complexity.
Arsenault shifted back to private practice and became a partner at JA, LLC in 2017. In that capacity he has managed patent prosecution, trademark matters, and technology-related counseling for clients of varying sizes. He works on patent applications and USPTO proceedings, and he handles related litigation in federal court when matters require it.
His professional memberships date to 2009 and include the Colorado Bar Association, the Boulder Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He maintains his registration as a patent lawyer at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Those affiliations reflect long-standing ties to the Colorado legal community and to national forums for intellectual property law.
Arsenault’s practice combines courtroom work, administrative proceedings before the Patent Office, and transactional drafting. He prepares and prosecutes patent applications, advises on trademark strategy, and negotiates technology agreements. Colleagues describe him as methodical in his approach to technical detail and pragmatic in settling disputes, preferring clear legal strategies over elaborate posturing.
He continues to practice in Colorado and in the federal district, and he remains registered with the USPTO. His current practice centers on patent and technology matters.
