About Joel R.

Joel R. Brandes built his legal foundation in classrooms and libraries. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from the City University of New York—Queens College in 1965. He then completed a J.D. at Brooklyn Law School in 1968 and followed that with an LL.M. in Corporation Law from New York University School of Law in 1974. Those academic steps moved him from broad liberal-arts study into specialized legal training. The LL.M. signaled a particular interest in corporate law and the kinds of transactions and governance questions that arise in business practice.

After law school Mr. Brandes entered practice in New York, where he is admitted to the bar. Over the years he has maintained ties to professional organizations. Since 2019 he has been listed as a member of the New York State Bar Association and of The Association of the Bar of the City of New York. Membership in those groups keeps him connected to developments in state and city law, continuing education, and peer networks.

His formal legal education and long residence in the New York legal community inform the matters he handles. The LL.M. in Corporation Law provides a technical foundation for work on corporate structures, commercial agreements and governance issues. He approaches those subjects through a practitioner’s lens, applying statutory and case law to client problems. Colleagues and clients have relied on him for counsel that interprets corporate concepts in plain terms, breaking down complex arrangements into actionable steps.

Today Mr. Brandes practices from The Law Office of Joel R. Brandes, P.C. He operates in New York and handles matters that draw on his corporate-law training and years of experience in the local bar. Courtroom litigation is not the only part of his work; transactional counseling, contract drafting and advising on organizational questions are regular elements of his caseload. He currently practices at The Law Office of Joel R. Brandes, P.C., where his work concentrates on corporate and commercial matters in New York.
