About Joel

Joel Levine earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School. He began his legal life steeped in rigorous training and the casework that follows an Ivy League education. That foundation shaped a career that has moved away from courtroom advocacy and toward the roles that settle disputes earlier and more quietly.

He is a member of the bars of Arizona, New York and Florida. He is also admitted in several federal tribunals, including the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, as well as the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Eleventh and Ninth Circuits. Those admissions reflect a practice that crosses state lines and federal lines alike.

Over the course of his career he has served as mediator in more than 1,000 cases and as arbitrator in more than 150. He has also been appointed as a receiver and as a special master. Those roles require a different set of skills than trial work: an eye for process, a steadiness in managing complex fact patterns and the ability to frame options that parties can accept. He has become known among peers as someone experienced in handling those neutral assignments.

His caseload has covered a wide range of commercial and civil disputes. Matters that come before him vary in size and complexity. Some are routine contractual disagreements. Others involve higher stakes, overlapping claims, or multifaceted financial issues. His work as receiver and special master has involved the oversight and administration duties those appointments demand.

He operates under the name Joel Levine, Esq. Arbitrator/Mediator/Neutral Services. In that capacity he accepts appointments from courts, arbitral bodies and the parties themselves. He works with counsel to set ground rules, manage discovery disputes when they arise and steer negotiations toward resolution. The practice requires patience and an ability to explain practical outcomes in plain terms.

Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in his handling of cases. He approaches each matter in a methodical way and aims to provide clear, enforceable recommendations when a binding decision is required. He currently serves as an arbitrator and mediator handling neutral services.
