About Joel

Joel Hancock built a steady academic foundation before entering practice. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from East Carolina University in 2005 and followed that with a Master of Science from the same institution in 2008. He then studied law at the Pennsylvania State University’s Dickinson School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2009.

After law school, Hancock returned to the Dickinson School of Law as a research assistant for Professor Marco Ventoruzzo in 2010. That role placed him in a scholarly setting, working on projects tied to the law school's curriculum and faculty research. In the same year he served as a certified legal intern at the Clinton County, PA District Lawyer's Office, gaining hands-on courtroom and office experience in a government setting.

Hancock moved into private practice in the early 2010s. Records show he was at Cummings & Kennedy in 2013. The experience there broadened his exposure to client representation and firm operations. Over time he took on more responsibility and began shaping an independent practice approach.

In 2018 he opened his own firm, Hancock Law Office. As owner, Hancock has managed the administrative and client-facing sides of a small firm. He handles the daily demands of running a practice, from case intake to client meetings and court appearances. He is a member of the North Carolina State Bar and maintains that membership currently.

Colleagues and clients describe Hancock as methodical in preparing legal matters and straightforward in his courtroom demeanor. The progression from research assistant and certified intern to private practitioner and firm owner shows a steady, workmanlike trajectory through different legal environments. He has combined academic work early in his career with practical roles in both public and private sectors.

Hancock continues to serve clients through Hancock Law Office. His current practice focuses on providing legal services through his firm.
