About Joel

Joel Blackledge built his professional foundation on two distinct but complementary fields: law and accounting. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi, completing that degree in 1994. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Mississippi College School of Law in 1997. Those academic credentials shaped a practice that values both legal reasoning and financial detail.

After law school, Blackledge moved into private practice and later into a significant role in a larger firm setting. By 2004 he served as a special partner at Deutsch, Kerrigan & Stiles. There he worked alongside established practitioners and handled matters that benefited from his accounting background. The experience exposed him to complex file work and the demands of managing client expectations within a firm structure.

In 2007 he established his own practice under the Blackledge Law Office name. Running a solo or small-firm shop required different skills than working as a partner in a larger firm. He assumed responsibility for case intake, client relations, and the business operations of the office. That period defined his approach to practice management and client service.

Colleagues and clients describe Blackledge as methodical. He breaks problems into discrete parts and pays attention to the paperwork and numbers that often shape legal outcomes. His accounting training informs how he reviews contracts, evaluates damages and interprets financial records. He applies that perspective across matters that call for careful document review and practical case strategies.

Blackledge maintains current memberships in professional associations. He participates in the bar and local legal community through those channels, attending meetings and contributing where needed. Those ties keep him connected to changes in Mississippi law and to other lawyers across the state.

Today he practices in Mississippi through the Blackledge Law Office. He handles matters that draw on both his legal training and accounting background, serving clients across the state and managing cases from intake to resolution. His current practice focuses on applying legal and financial analysis to clients’ problems.
