About Joe
Joe Pappas earned his Juris Doctor from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2015. He entered the legal profession shortly after completing his studies and established his practice in Illinois. He remains connected to the region where he trained, balancing courtroom preparation and client work in a local firm setting.
Pappas began his post-law school career in Illinois and by 2017 was listed as an associate lawyer at Smith Law, Ltd. That role placed him in a small firm environment where attorneys often handle a wide range of tasks. He joined colleagues there and has continued to practice under the Smith Law, Ltd. name.
Colleagues describe him as steady in routine legal tasks and attentive to procedural detail. He has worked on matters that required research, document preparation and client communications. Outside the office, Pappas has been active in local bar work. Since 2019 he has served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Coles County Bar Association.
