About Jody

Jody Strauss earned her law degrees from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, completing a J.D. in 2007 and an LL.M. in Taxation in 2008. The combination of a J.D. and a specialized tax master’s degree shaped the early contours of her legal interests. She also holds certification as a Certified Public Accountant from the Florida Board of Accountancy, a credential that informs how she approaches financial and tax issues in client matters.

Her career has been centered in Florida. After finishing her graduate studies, she moved into practice that blends tax knowledge with long-term planning concerns. Over the years she has worked under the banner of Elder Needs Law, including practice at entities styled as Elder Needs Law, PLLC and Elder Needs Law Center, PLLC. Her background as both an attorney and a CPA places her at the intersection of law and finance, a practical pairing in cases that hinge on precise tax treatment and financial documentation.

Strauss’s professional activities have included participation in professional associations since 2007. That involvement has run alongside the daily work of counseling clients on issues that affect older adults and their families. She approaches those problems through legal tools—wills, trusts, guardianship arrangements and public-benefits planning—while also accounting for tax consequences and reporting obligations that often complicate end-of-life planning.

Her experience handling financial aspects of elder law matters shapes the advice she gives. Clients who face potential Medicaid eligibility questions, long-term care funding, or estate settlement matters receive counsel informed by tax rules and accounting principles. Her CPA background makes it natural for her to analyze budgets, cash flows and tax liabilities as part of creating workable plans for clients and their caregivers.

Colleagues describe Strauss as methodical in her review of financial records and deliberate in drafting documents that aim to reduce future disputes. She has built a practice that bridges technical tax work and the practical needs of families managing aging-related legal issues. In meetings she often translates complex tax language into plain terms so clients can weigh options and understand trade-offs.

She currently practices at Elder Needs Law, PLLC, concentrating on elder law, Medicaid planning and related tax issues.
