About Jodi

Jodi Black earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 2004. She entered law school after a career in health care, drawing on years of hands-on clinical experience. That combination of clinical and legal training shaped the early arc of her professional life.

Before law school, Black worked as a critical care registered nurse beginning in 1993. She spent those years in hospital settings, where she developed a practical understanding of patient care and medical systems. After completing her J.D., she moved directly into private practice, joining Sigmon Law Office in 2004 as a lawyer.

Two years later she took a position at Deal, Coooper & Holton, PLLC, continuing to build courtroom and client experience. In 2015 she joined Morgan & Morgan as a lawyer. Her resume lists Morgan & Morgan as her current office, reflecting a multi-year tenure at that firm.

Black maintains active memberships in several professional organizations. She is a member of the State Bar of Tennessee and the Arkansas State Bar. Locally, she belongs to the Memphis Bar Association and participates in the Bench Bar Conference. These associations keep her connected to state and local legal developments and to peers across jurisdictions.

Her background in critical care nursing informs how she approaches cases that touch on clinical and medical issues. She brings an understanding of hospital procedures, charting, and standards of care into her legal work. That perspective can be useful when evaluating evidence or communicating complex medical matters to judges, juries, and clients.

Colleagues describe her path as one that crosses two professions. She transitioned from bedside nursing to legal practice without losing sight of the technical detail that matters in both fields. Over time she has handled matters that require both legal analysis and familiarity with medical concepts.

Today Black practices at Morgan & Morgan. Her work centers on litigation for individual clients, including matters that involve medical issues and civil claims. She remains active in bar and local legal circles while continuing to represent clients in civil litigation.
