About Joan C

Joan C. Foley is a distinguished Professor of Legal Process at Touro Law Center, located in Central Islip, New York. She has been a member of the New York State Bar since 1995, marking a significant milestone in her legal career. At Touro Law Center, she teaches a variety of courses, including Health Care Law, Legal Process, and American Trial Courts. These courses are designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills pertinent to the legal field. Foley earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the prestigious New York University School of Law in 1995.

Prior to that, she completed her undergraduate studies at Binghamton University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with honors in 1991. This solid educational foundation laid the groundwork for her successful career in law. After completing her J.D., she joined Gordon Thomas Honeywell LLP in Seattle, Washington, where she began to build her expertise in various areas of law. During her tenure at Gordon Thomas Honeywell LLP, Foley focused on health law, complex litigation, appellate litigation, and environmental litigation. She managed a diverse caseload that included reimbursement litigation, product liability, personal injury, defense litigation, utilities law, and class actions. Her experience in these complex legal matters has contributed significantly to her teaching and her understanding of the intricacies involved in these fields.

From 2000 to 2006, she served as a partner at the firm, further solidifying her reputation as a skilled attorney. In 2007, Foley transitioned to academia by teaching at the University of Washington School of Law, where she continued to share her extensive knowledge with law students. Her commitment to legal education is evident in her role at Touro Law Center, where she inspires the next generation of legal professionals. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she is an active member of the Federal Bar Association – Eastern District of New York Chapter. In 2015, she was elected Vice President of this chapter, reflecting her leadership and dedication to the legal community. Furthermore, Foley is a Steering Committee Member of the Laurel Rubin Farm Worker Justice Project, where she advocates for the rights of farm workers.

Her involvement in this project demonstrates her commitment to social justice and community service. Additionally, she is a certified mediator, further enhancing her skill set in conflict resolution.
