About Jo-Anna
Jo-Anna Nieves built her legal foundation at Florida State University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Multinational Business and Finance in 2004. Five years later she completed a Juris Doctor at Florida State University College of Law in 2009. Those years combined business training and legal study, and shaped her early interest in courtroom work and litigation strategy.
Her first recorded post-law school role began in 2009 at the Sacramento County District Lawyer s Office, where she served as an LRA. That entry into public-sector practice gave her a front-row view of how cases move through arraignments, discovery and trial preparation. She moved into private practice and in 2011 joined Mandarich Law Group, LLP as a trial lawyer. There she spent time in contested cases, sharpening courtroom skills and handling motions and hearings.
In 2013 she opened and took charge of The Nieves Law Office as managing lawyer. Leading her own office required a change of perspective. She balanced casework and client intake with running a small firm. Managing a practice has also meant mentoring staff and shaping how the office approaches litigation and client service.
Nieves holds admission in both California and Florida. That dual jurisdiction status informs how she organizes cross-state matters and sets client expectations. She has been active in local bar circles and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Alameda County Bar Association. Her participation on the board keeps her engaged in local legal issues and bar governance, and provides a channel for professional collaboration and continuing legal education.
Her background spans public defense or prosecution-style work in a county office, larger firm trial litigation, and small-firm management. She has handled courtroom appearances, drafted pleadings, and overseen case strategy from intake through disposition. Clients and colleagues see a practitioner who understands both the mechanics of trial work and the administrative demands of running a law office.
Today she practices from The Nieves Law Office. Her work continues to combine litigation and firm leadership, and she remains active in the Alameda County Bar Association. She concentrates her practice on litigation and courtroom advocacy while managing her firm’s daily operations.
