About Jimmy
Jimmy Ardoin built his legal path steadily. He studied history at the University of Texas at Austin, earning a B.A. in 2000. He went on to earn a J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 2004. Those years laid the groundwork for a courtroom practice and a career spent largely in Texas courts.
He began his legal work the year he finished law school. In 2004 he joined Cogdell Law Office as an associate. The early years at that firm gave him routine exposure to case preparation, client meetings and courtroom procedure. Six years later he rose to partner at Cogdell & Ardoin, LLC in 2010. The move into partnership was brief but important; it set the stage for an independent practice the following year.
In 2011 he opened ArdoinLaw, PLLC and has served as owner since. Running a small firm has required wearing many hats. He handles intake, case strategy and the everyday business tasks that keep a practice functioning. The firm operates in Texas and regularly appears in state courts; it also handles matters that touch federal jurisdiction.
Outside the office he has been an active participant in professional groups. He joined the American Bar Association in 2004. He became a member of the Federal Bar Association in 2013 and joined the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association in 2011. Since 2014 he has been part of the Garland R. Walker American Inn of Court. Those memberships reflect a continued engagement with peers and an interest in criminal and federal practice areas.
Colleagues describe him as methodical and practical in courtroom settings. He favors careful preparation and clear argumentation. He has built a practice that emphasizes direct client contact, regular court appearances and litigation readiness. The firm handles arraignments, pretrial motions and trials when necessary. It also manages post-conviction and sentencing matters when clients require further representation.
The arc of his career is straightforward: education, early associate work, partnership, then founding a solo or small-firm practice. He has stayed in Texas and maintained memberships that align with criminal defense and federal practice. He now practices criminal defense and represents clients in both state and federal courts.
