About Jessica Dawn

Jessica Dawn Burns earned her J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 2002 after completing a Bachelor of Science at Drury University in 1998. She returned to Missouri to build a career in law. Her education provided a foundation in courtroom procedure, client counseling, and written advocacy.

She has been active in the Missouri legal community since the early 2000s and joined the Missouri Bar Association in 2003. Local involvement followed. Burns joined the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association in 2005 and has remained engaged in regional bar activities.

Family law became a central part of her professional life. She is a member of the Missouri Bar Family Law Section since 2010 and has worked on a range of domestic relations matters. Colleagues know her for steady courtroom work and for handling custody evaluations, divorce proceedings, parenting plans, and support matters. She also maintains a practice that includes alternative dispute resolution, regularly using mediation to settle disputes outside the courtroom.

In 2017 she added membership in the Association of Missouri Mediators, reflecting a growing role as a neutral in contested matters. Burns holds a Guardian Ad Litem certification from the Missouri Bar Association and accepts GAL appointments in cases involving the best interests of children. That role requires careful fact-finding, clear reports to the court, and an ability to explain recommendations in hearings.

Her professional life is marked by steady participation in bar organizations. Longstanding ties to the Springfield bar and to state family law practitioners shape how she approaches cases. She has worked alongside other lawyers, mediators, and court personnel in the region and participates in continuing legal education to stay current on developments in family law and dispute resolution.

Clients and fellow lawyers describe her as practical and methodical in case preparation. She prepares for hearings with detailed timelines and supporting documents. In mediation she aims to identify practical solutions that parties can implement. In guardian ad litem work she focuses on factual analysis and clear written recommendations.

Burns currently practices in Missouri, remains active in statewide and local bar groups, and continues to accept family law matters, mediation assignments, and guardian ad litem appointments. She currently practices family law, serves as a mediator, and accepts appointments as a guardian ad litem.
