About Jerry

Jerry Sumner is an attorney whose legal education spans both classroom and practice. He earned a Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law in 1995. Earlier degrees include a Master of Science in Education Administration from Pensacola Christian College in 1983 and a bachelor’s degree in history and education. Those credentials set a foundation for a career that bridges education and law.

After law school, Sumner entered the practice of law in Colorado. He is a member of the Colorado State Bar and is admitted to practice in Colorado. Over time he secured admission to federal courts, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and he is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions allow him to take cases at both state and federal levels when appropriate.

Colleagues and clients describe him as steady and methodical in approach. He has maintained ongoing professional memberships and participates in the bar community in Colorado. That involvement keeps him connected to developments in state law and federal procedure. His background in education informs how he communicates complex legal points. He tends to favor clear explanation over legal jargon.

Sumner has operated from private practice for many years. He opened and practices through Sumner Law Office, PLLC. Records list that firm as his office and the vehicle through which he accepts client matters. In that setting he handles litigation and counseling that touch on the court admissions he holds.

He has worked on matters that require navigation of both state statutes and federal rules. He appears in hearings and files briefs in district and appellate settings when cases require it. His admission to the Supreme Court further allows him to accept cases that may escalate to the highest federal level, though such matters are relatively rare in any practitioner’s docket.

Outside the courtroom he draws on earlier administrative training from his master’s studies when advising institutions and individuals on procedural and regulatory questions. That combination of education and courtroom practice shapes how he prepares a case and presents it to judges and opposing counsel.

He currently practices through Sumner Law Office, PLLC, handling matters in the jurisdictions where he is admitted.
