About Jerry L.
Jerry L. Garner has built a career that moves between courtroom practice, federal investigation and the classroom. He trained as a lawyer in Kentucky, served as a federal special agent, returned to practice and later took on teaching duties. His path reflects varied professional interests and several changes in direction over decades.
Garner began his academic journey at Hanover College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1985. He then attended the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law and received his Juris Doctor in 1988. More than two decades later he expanded his studies in a different discipline, completing a Master of Science in Astronomy at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne in 2010.
He entered private practice shortly after law school, serving as an associate at the Law Office of Jenner & Kemper in 1989. The following year he joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a special agent. His time in federal law enforcement is part of a larger professional profile that includes membership in organizations for former agents and active FBI groups.
After his tenure with the FBI, Garner returned to roles that mixed practice and instruction. In 2013 he taught as an adjunct professor at Kentucky Wesleyan College. In 2017 he opened his own firm, operating the Law Office of Jerry L. Garner and maintaining a satellite office. He continues to balance casework with the occasional academic engagement.
Garner is admitted to practice in Indiana and before the Southern District of Indiana. His professional affiliations include the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National College for DUI Defense, the Indiana Public Defender Council, the Indiana State Bar Association and the Evansville Bar Association. He also belongs to the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI and the FBI Agents Association.
