About Jerry

Jerry Hoffer earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Akron in 1988. He trained in the classroom and learned the craft of law in clinic settings and on campus. The degree set the stage for a career centered on family law and dispute resolution in Tennessee.

He began practicing law in 1991. Early years were spent handling a mix of contested and uncontested matters common to family law practice. Over time he added mediation to his toolkit and became a familiar presence in local court calendars and settlement conferences.

Hoffer holds Rule 31 certification as a Family Mediator from the Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission. That credential signals formal training in court-referred mediation and an ability to conduct private settlement sessions. He also maintains membership in the Tennessee Bar Association, which keeps him connected to state-level developments in practice and procedure.

His work has included traditional representation and mediative roles. He represents clients in divorce, child custody and child support matters. He assists with property division and related post-judgment issues. When both sides agree to explore settlement, he conducts family mediations under Rule 31 protocols and helps parties draft enforceable agreements.

Hoffer operates out of two offices. One is Jerry Hoffer Lawyer at Law P.C., which serves clients across the state. The other is the Divorce and Family Law Center, where he meets clients and mediates cases. He handles both litigated matters and negotiated resolutions, adapting his approach to the needs of each family.

Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and practical at the negotiating table. He has spent decades working through the procedural rules and local practices that shape family law in Tennessee. Time in both adversarial and conciliatory roles gives him perspective on when a case should settle and when it should proceed to trial.

He continues to practice in Tennessee, offering representation in divorce and other family-law matters and providing Rule 31 family mediation services to clients and courts.
