About Jeremy L.
Jeremy L. Richards combines academic training in English and law with a steady career in immigration practice. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Utah Valley University in 2004 and later received his Juris Doctor from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2010. Those academic years set the foundation for work that crosses borders and legal systems.
After law school he joined a private practice that would become Richards and Jurusik. He rose to partner in 2011 and has remained there since. That early move into partnership shaped his day-to-day work. It also placed him in the firm’s leadership when he began taking on more complex matters and managing client relationships.
Richards is admitted to practice in New York. He is also recognized by a Canadian regulatory body as a Foreign Legal Consultant under the Law Society of Upper Canada. That credential allows him to advise on cross-border questions and engage with Canadian counsel on matters that touch both jurisdictions.
He has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2011 and continues that membership. The association ties him to the broader immigration bar and to ongoing education and policy conversations. Participation in that organization has informed how he handles administrative proceedings and client communication.
Colleagues describe his work as methodical. He prepares filings and briefs, attends hearings, and oversees procedural strategy. He has handled cases that require coordination between counsel in different countries. That practical experience is part of the everyday practice at Richards and Jurusik.
Clients at the firm encounter a small-team model. Cases are staffed by a lead attorney and supporting associates or paralegals who handle research and preparation. Richards’s role often involves deciding the legal approach, drafting key submissions, and appearing at hearings when needed. He also spends time reviewing potential business immigration matters and family petitions.
Outside the office he stays current on changes to immigration law and related regulations. That includes tracking administrative rulings and guidance that affect client eligibility and procedural timelines. He continues to practice from the Richards and Jurusik office and concentrates on immigration matters and cross-border legal questions.
