About Jeremy
Jeremy Cohen earned a B.A. in sociology from Clark University in 1992 and completed his J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 1995. He moved into practice in Massachusetts and is admitted to practice before the state courts and the First Circuit. His education forms a steady throughline in a career that bridges insurance, property claims and animal-related law.
Cohen spent the early part of his professional life in the insurance field. In 2001 he worked as a GE Global Property Claims Manager at Electric Insurance Company, handling complex property matters and claims administration. That role exposed him to high-volume claims processing and insurer-side dispute resolution. He later moved into private practice and, in 2007, is listed as a lawyer with Cohen & Associates, PC, where he handled civil matters across the region.
In the last decade his work has gravitated toward issues involving animals, especially dogs. He took on leadership roles in several specialty organizations and eventually became president of Boston Dog Lawyers. That position ties together litigation, client counseling and public advocacy around dog-related ordinances, civil liability and humane handling of animal cases. He balances courtroom work with outreach and education aimed at both owners and professionals in the field.
Cohen’s professional affiliations are broad. He volunteers as a lawyer for the Animal Legal Defense Fund and for Massachusetts Legal Answers Online, helping the public and contributing to animal law access. He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Essex County Bar Association and several groups tied to animal behavior and training, including the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. He also belongs to the Mass Federation of Responsible Dog Owners and has participated on an Animal Law Committee since 2013. From 2012 to 2018 he served as a corporator for SalemFive Bank.
Clients and colleagues describe him as a practitioner who combines background in claims management with specialized knowledge of dog-related civil issues. He handles matters that range from homeowner insurance disputes to local ordinance challenges, and he often works at the intersection of civil law and animal welfare rules. He maintains an active role in bar and animal-law communities and continues to volunteer legal services on animal-law platforms.
He currently practices at Boston Dog Lawyers, handling dog-related civil matters and related legal issues.
