About Jennifer

Jennifer Newton built a legal foundation in two very different Florida classrooms. She earned a B.S. in Sociology and Social Science from Florida State University, then moved to New Orleans for a J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. Those studies left her comfortable with both human behavior and legal structure.

After law school she entered private practice in Florida. Early work included advising clients on business formation and routine transactional matters. She spent time learning how small decisions about governance and contracts can ripple into larger problems. That practical grounding shaped the way she approaches client work.

Over the years Newton combined transactional practice with counseling for entrepreneurs. She handled entity selection, drafting of operating agreements, and contract negotiations for a range of small businesses. She is licensed to practice in Florida and has maintained work tied to the regional business community.

Her style is straightforward. She prefers clear documents over ornate language. She also tries to explain legal options so clients can make informed choices. Colleagues describe her as pragmatic; she focuses on practical outcomes rather than theoretical debates. That orientation shows in how she manages matters from intake through resolution.

Today Newton is based at StartSmart Counsel, PLLC. There she continues to work with business owners and founders, helping them set up and run their ventures. She handles entity formation, contract drafting and review, and compliance questions that commonly confront new companies. Her current practice centers on advising emerging companies and entrepreneurs on corporate formation, contracts and regulatory matters.
