About Jennifer
Jennifer Meyer earned her J.D. from Drake University Law School in 2002 after completing undergraduate studies in finance at the University of Northern Iowa in 1999. During law school she took coursework and participated in clinics that covered divorce, family, criminal and juvenile law. Early practical experience included a JAG internship with the United States Army in 2000, a post that introduced her to client counseling and military legal procedures while she was still a student.
Her first position after law school was at Grimes, Buck, Schoell, Beach & Hitchens in 2002, where she worked as an associate attorney. She moved on in 2005 to Steffens & Grife, PC and continued to build litigation and negotiation experience at the firm. In 2011 she opened her own practice, Jennifer Meyer Law, PC. That step shifted her daily work from an associate role inside a larger firm to running a smaller, client-facing practice where she manages case strategy, filings and client communications.
Meyer has stayed active in bar and community organizations throughout her career. She serves on the executive board of the Iowa State Bar Young Lawyers Division and holds a board position at Marshalltown Youth & Shelter Services. She is a member of the Polk County Volunteer Lawyers Association and participates in the Iowa Bar Association Family Law Division. Local affiliations include membership in the Polk, Marshall and Jasper County bar associations. Those roles reflect ongoing involvement in local legal networks and community service initiatives.
Her practice covers a range of family law matters. Cases that come through her office commonly involve divorce, custody and child support questions, along with the related property and financial issues that arise in family court. Her background also includes work on criminal and juvenile matters dating back to her legal training and early career assignments. In practice she handles pretrial negotiations, filings in district court and courtroom hearings when necessary.
Colleagues and clients describe Meyer as methodical and direct in handling case details and legal procedure. She balances courtroom work with efforts to resolve disputes through settlement when that course serves a client’s interests. Jennifer Meyer now practices from Jennifer Meyer Law, PC in Iowa and focuses her work on family law, divorce and related matters.
