About Jennifer Jones
Jennifer Jones Thomas built a professional path that crosses medicine and the law. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in 1992, followed by a Master of Science from the LSU Medical Center in 1994. She then turned to legal study and received her J.D. from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1999.
Her first professional experience was in a clinical setting. In 1994 she worked as a case manager in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. That early exposure to clinical operations and patient care informed her later work as an attorney and remains a touchstone in how she approaches health care legal issues.
After law school she joined Kean Miller LLP and is listed as a partner beginning in 1999. Her practice has centered on matters that intersect health care delivery, regulatory compliance, and provider operations. She is a certified Health Law Specialist by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization, a credential that recognizes her work in complex health law topics and state regulatory frameworks.
Thomas is admitted to practice in Louisiana and in several federal jurisdictions. Her admissions include the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana. Those admissions allow her to represent hospitals, health systems and individual providers in both trial and appellate proceedings.
Her professional memberships reflect the blend of clinical and legal interests in her career. She holds memberships in the Louisiana Nursing Home Association, the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Baton Rouge Medical Group Management Association and the Louisiana Hospital Association Society of Lawyers. She also participates in broader legal organizations such as the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association and the American Health Lawyers Association.
Colleagues describe her work as practical and anchored in an understanding of how health care institutions operate day to day. She routinely advises clients on regulatory compliance, transactional matters involving health care providers and matters that arise from clinical operations. She maintains an active practice at Kean Miller LLP, representing health care entities and professionals in regulatory, transactional and litigation matters.
Her current practice focuses on counseling hospitals, long-term care providers and health professionals on regulatory compliance, transactions and litigation in Louisiana and in federal courts.
