About Jenessa C

Jenessa C Hicks began her academic path at Louisiana Tech University, where she earned a B.A. in Political Science/Pre-Law and English in 2002. She continued her legal studies at the University of Mississippi and received her J.D. in 2006. Those years shaped her approach to law and prepared her for practice across state and federal courts.

After law school, Hicks gained admission to practice in Mississippi and Tennessee and secured permission to appear before the Fifth Circuit. She has maintained her licenses in those jurisdictions while building a practice grounded in courtroom procedure and appellate briefing. The list of jurisdictions she holds underscores a practice that crosses state lines and touches both trial and appellate work.

Her involvement in local bar groups dates back more than a decade. She joined the Lafayette County Bar Association in 2009 and has remained active there. Since 2010 she has served as Secretary of the Tri-County Young Lawyers, a role that placed her in day-to-day contact with peers and local practitioners and involved administrative duties and event coordination.

Colleagues describe Hicks as methodical in her preparation. She tends to favor careful legal research and measured courtroom presentation. That approach has shaped the kinds of matters she handles and how she communicates with clients. She often works on filings and hearings that require attention to procedural detail.

Her courtroom experience includes appearances in state courts across Mississippi and Tennessee and filings in federal court, including matters presented to the Fifth Circuit. She balances trial and appellate tasks, drafting briefs, preparing motions, and handling in-person hearings. Her practice reflects a steady involvement in litigation and post-judgment proceedings.

In her daily work she splits time between client meetings, court appearances, and drafting legal documents. Outside of formal practice she continues to participate in bar programming and local legal education efforts. She represents clients in state and federal courts in Mississippi and Tennessee.
