About Jeffrey T.
Jeffrey T. Oswald studied business and law in the Midwest before settling into a career in criminal defense. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1993 and went on to receive his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1996. Those years shaped his approach to client work: practical, direct and rooted in procedure.
He moved into private practice soon after law school and became a partner at Hammett, Bellin & Oswald, LLC in 1997. That early partnership signaled a quick transition from junior lawyer to a trial-ready attorney responsible for managing cases and mentoring younger lawyers. Over the years he has remained at the same firm, developing steady ties to local courts and bar groups.
Oswald maintains memberships in several professional organizations that reflect his practice priorities. He has belonged to the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2005 and the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2000. He joined the National College of DUI Defense in 2012. Those affiliations indicate sustained engagement with criminal defense and driving-related prosecutions, and they keep him connected to evolving case law and practice techniques.
Outside the courtroom, Oswald has a long record of community involvement. He coached youth basketball beginning in 2005 and continued in that role for many years. From 2007 to 2012 he took on leadership responsibilities with Rebuilding Together – Fox Valley, serving as president in 2012. He also served as treasurer of the local Boys & Girls Club from 2008 to 2012 and participated in United Way emergency leadership efforts between 2007 and 2010. These positions point to steady civic engagement alongside his legal work.
Locally, he is active in county bar associations, holding memberships in the Outagamie County Bar Association and the Winnebago County Bar Association since 1997. Those affiliations reflect a practice rooted in the Fox Valley and surrounding communities. He works from the firm’s Appleton office and has litigated matters across the Wisconsin state system.
Colleagues describe him as deliberate and pragmatic at the table and in court. He has combined courtroom practice with client counseling for decades, often handling contested hearings and negotiated resolutions alike. He currently focuses his practice on criminal defense and DUI defense from the firm’s Appleton office.
