About Jeffrey R.

Jeffrey R. Hellman trained at Duke University and Harvard Law School before beginning a career that has moved between public service, firm practice and solo work. He earned an A.B. in history from Duke in 1983 and received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1986. Those classroom years set the stage for a long legal career across state and federal courts.

He began his practice in public service, working as an Assistant District Lawyer in Philadelphia in 1986. After that early prosecutorial experience he shifted to private practice. In 1989 he became a partner at Shipman & Goodwin. Later he took a partner role at Zeisler and Zeisler P.C. in 1996. Records show he has also been affiliated with Transatlantic Bubbles, LLC since 2007 and with the Law Offices of Jeffrey Hellman, LLC since 2012.

Over the years Hellman built a practice that spans commercial, federal and bankruptcy-related matters. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. He is also admitted to several federal courts, including the Southern District of New York, the District of Connecticut, the Northern District of New York and the District of Massachusetts, and to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Those admissions reflect a practice that often crosses state lines and involves federal litigation.

Hellman has been active in organized bar work. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association Federal Practice Section since 1996. He has also been a member of the Federal Bar Council since 2000 and maintains membership in the Connecticut Bar Association Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section. His association work has kept him engaged with procedural and federal practice issues over decades of practice.

Colleagues describe him as practical in approach and steady in the courtroom. He has worked in a mix of firm settings and smaller affiliations, and his record shows movement between partnership roles and more independent arrangements. Today he works through the Law Offices of Jeffrey Hellman, LLC. He currently practices at the Law Offices of Jeffrey Hellman, LLC, where his work concentrates on commercial litigation and federal practice matters.
