About Jeffrey

Jeffrey Moisan moved from the lab bench to the courtroom. He began his academic life at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning a B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2009. That scientific background later informed his decision to study law. He graduated from DePaul College of Law in 2015.

After law school, Moisan gained early experience in intellectual property practice. In 2014 he worked as a law clerk and summer associate at Global IP Law Group. The following year he joined Richards Patent Law as an associate. Those roles gave him practical exposure to patent prosecution and the procedural detail that underpins IP litigation.

Moisan is licensed to practice in Illinois. He has been a member of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago since 2016. That membership places him among practitioners who regularly handle patent and trademark matters, and who follow developments in federal and state-level IP rules and procedures.

His scientific training informs how he approaches technical subject matter. Colleagues say he combines the analytical habits of a scientist with the casework rhythm of a patent lawyer. He is comfortable parsing patent claims, drafting specifications and counseling inventors on patentability. He has worked on matters that required an understanding of molecular biology concepts, and he applies that knowledge when evaluating prior art and drafting patent applications.

Moisan’s early career is marked by steady movement into IP practice. He moved from a summer role at a specialized IP group to an associate position at a patent-focused firm. That trajectory is common for lawyers who bridge science and law. It offered him repeated opportunities to refine prosecution strategy and to learn the filing practices of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Outside of direct case work, he participates in professional gatherings and continuing legal education tied to intellectual property. He keeps up with changes in patent law doctrine and practices that affect how patents are obtained and enforced. His background in molecular and cellular biology, combined with formal legal training, gives him a practical perspective on technical patent matters.

He is currently licensed in Illinois and practices intellectual property law. His work centers on patent prosecution and related IP matters.
