About Jeffrey J.
Jeffrey J. Michalowski began his legal path after earning a B.B.A. from Adrian College in 1997 and a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School in 2000. He joined the State Bar of Michigan the same year and has maintained active membership since. Those early academic years set the groundwork for a practice rooted in Michigan law.
He moved into private practice following law school and became an owner of Serafini, Michalowski, Derkacz & Associates, P.C. in 2006. That step marked a shift from associate-level work to leadership and firm management. Over more than a decade at the firm, he has balanced casework with the responsibilities that come from running a multi-attorney practice.
Michalowski belongs to several professional organizations that reflect his place in the Michigan legal community. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and maintains ties to the Michigan Bar Association and the Macomb County Bar Association. He also holds membership in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. These affiliations signal an ongoing engagement with both local bar activities and specialized practice communities.
Colleagues describe his career as steady and practical. He has spent his professional life practicing under Michigan jurisdiction. That continuity has allowed him to build long-term relationships with other lawyers, court staff, and clients in the region. It has also given him familiarity with state procedures and the nuances of local courts.
The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys membership points to an involvement in matters that affect older adults and their families. Within a general practice, that involvement can include planning for long-term care, estate-related issues, and interactions with public benefits. He has applied that interest while managing cases at his firm and navigating the administrative duties that come with firm ownership.
Outside of courtroom appearances and client meetings, Michalowski’s role requires attention to administrative oversight, mentoring younger attorneys, and participating in bar activities. Running a firm since 2006 has demanded both legal judgment and business sense. His practice is rooted in the community he serves and shaped by decades of work in Michigan.
He currently practices at Serafini, Michalowski, Derkacz & Associates, P.C., where his work includes elder law and related matters.
