About Jeffrey

Jeffrey Hord earned his law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2007 after completing his undergraduate studies at the College of William and Mary in 2003. He entered the bar world at a time when federal and state litigation increasingly overlapped. That timing shaped the early contours of his practice.

He began his professional career in a litigation role and now serves as an associate at Paley Rothman. In that role he files pleadings, argues motions and appears in court. He works on disputes that move through trial courts and sometimes onto appellate panels. His day-to-day work combines written advocacy, client counseling and courtroom appearances.

Hord is admitted to practice in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. He is also admitted to multiple federal forums, including the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and several U.S. district courts: the District of Maryland, the District of Columbia, the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.

His caseload has included employment and civil rights matters as well as commercial disputes. He handles pretrial investigations, discovery disputes, dispositive motions and oral argument. He has taken cases through the federal trial courts and prepared appeals for higher courts. The mix of trial and appellate work keeps the litigation practice varied and often fast-paced.

Outside the courtroom, Hord maintains active bar and professional memberships. He holds membership in the Maryland State Bar and participates in the Maryland State Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. He is a member of the Bar Association of Montgomery County, the Federal Bar Association’s Labor & Employment Law Section, the American Bar Association Litigation Section and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association Employment & Civil Rights Section.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in his trial preparation and concise in his written work. He aims to give clients clear options and practical next steps, whether that means an exchange of written discovery, mediation or a contested hearing. He balances detailed legal research with the need to move matters forward.

He currently practices as an associate at Paley Rothman and handles employment, civil rights and commercial litigation.
