About Jeffrey D. McMahan
Jeffrey D. McMahan Jr. began his professional path at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he completed a B.A. in Finance and Accounting in 2003. He moved into the private sector immediately after college, working as an auditor for Deloitte Consulting. That early accounting training shaped the analytical approach he later brought to law school. He earned his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2008.
His legal career started with a federal clerkship. In 2008 he served as a law clerk to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. The year in chambers gave him sustained exposure to appellate procedure and opinion drafting. Before and during law school he took on roles that combined finance and regulation, including a 2004 stint as a regulatory analyst at Wachovia Securities and a summer associate position at Troutman Sanders in 2006.
After law school and the clerkship, McMahan joined McGuireWoods LLP as an associate in 2009. He spent several years there developing litigation and transactional skills. In 2015 he moved to Graybill, Lansche & Vinzani, LLC, working again as an associate and broadening his practice. In 2020 he became a partner at Midtown GC, a role that marked his transition into firm leadership and client management.
His background combines financial training and courtroom experience. Early positions in auditing and regulatory analysis inform how he approaches evidence and compliance. The clerkship added an appellate perspective. At two large firms and later at a regional practice, he has handled matters that require both technical attention to documents and practical negotiation in client settings.
McMahan maintains memberships in several professional organizations. He is a member of the Virginia Bar Association and the Bar Association of the City of Richmond. He also holds membership in the Federal Bar Association and in the Lewis F. Powell, Jr. American Inn of Court. These affiliations reflect ongoing engagement with bar activities and professional education.
Colleagues describe his style as methodical and detail-oriented, and clients have sought him out for matters that intersect finance and law. He works from Midtown GC’s offices and practices under the Virginia bar. He is a partner at Midtown GC and practices law in Virginia as part of the firm’s team.
