About Jeffrey

Jeffrey Castleton earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Brigham Young University–Idaho in 2011 and a Juris Doctor from San Joaquin College of Law in 2017. He stuck close to the Central Valley early in his training. The combination of a business background and legal study shaped his early approach to cases and paperwork.

He spent parts of law school gaining practical experience. In 2013 he worked as a law clerk at the Castleton Law Office. He later served as executive editor of the San Joaquin Agricultural Law Review in 2015. During the same period he took on clerkships at Days Law Office and returned to the bench as a judicial law clerk for the Superior Court of California, County of Merced in 2016. Those roles gave him exposure to courtroom procedure and local practice standards.

After earning his J.D., Castleton launched Castleton Law Office in 2017. He handled a range of matters in the early years, then shifted his emphasis toward criminal defense. In 2021 he opened the Law Office of Jeffrey C. Castleton and began practicing under that name. The move formalized a practice built around local litigation and courtroom work.

Castleton is licensed to practice in California and maintains ties to the local bar. He joined the Merced County Bar Association in 2018 and remains involved there. His time as a judicial law clerk and as a private practitioner has kept him familiar with the procedural landscape of county courts.

Colleagues and records show he has handled matters that move through arraignment, pretrial hearings and trial work. He draws on his editorial experience when preparing filings, and on his earlier clerkship work when approaching evidentiary issues. He balances motion practice with client counseling, and spends a significant portion of his time in courtrooms across the region.

Outside the courthouse he has continued to refine the administrative side of operating a small firm. He manages case intake, drafting and courtroom logistics, tasks he learned during his initial clerkships and early years running his own office. He lives and works in the Central Valley and practices law across California. He concentrates his work on criminal defense at the Law Office of Jeffrey C. Castleton.
