About Jeffrey A.
Jeffrey A. Kennard studied at the University of Kansas, where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration and Advertising in 1991 and a J.D. in 1994. He stayed connected to the university’s law community after graduation and returned to work in areas that draw on both business and legal training.
His career has been oriented around construction law and litigation. Early on he became involved in bar associations and specialty groups that shape practice standards and dispute resolution in the construction industry. He helped found the Construction Law Section of the Kansas Bar Association and served as its president in 1997. He later took a leadership role in the Kansas City bar community, serving as president of the Construction Law Section of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association in 2013.
Kennard’s involvement extends into national circles. He has been a member of the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry since 2007. In 2014 he was elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a recognition that reflects sustained participation in professional organizations and scholarship support for the legal field. Those roles have kept him current on professional practice developments and trends in construction dispute resolution.
He is admitted to practice in multiple state and federal jurisdictions. His admissions include Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. He also appears in federal courts, including the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri and the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska. His federal admissions extend to the 10th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Over the years he has built a practice that combines counseling on construction contracts with courtroom work when disputes arise. He is known among colleagues for steady preparation and an emphasis on practical outcomes. He has worked on matters that involve contract interpretation, construction defects, and claims allocation, often coordinating with engineers and other experts when cases require technical analysis.
He practices at Scharnhorst Ast Kennard Griffin PC, where he continues to handle construction-related disputes, contract work and litigation in both state and federal venues. His current practice centers on construction law and related litigation.
