About Jeff
Jeff Cooper builds a practice around decisions people make at pivotal moments in life. He counsels clients facing aging, illness, death and the legal steps those events trigger. His work combines legal planning and practical financial sense.
He earned a J.D. from Hamline University School of Law and a B.A. in Business and Economics from Wheaton College. That combination of legal training and an undergraduate grounding in business informs how he approaches estate matters and planning conversations. Clients and colleagues say he brings a clear-eyed, practical style to discussions that can otherwise feel technical and overwhelming.
Cooper is admitted to practice in both Indiana and Illinois. He has held professional association memberships since 2005. Those long-standing ties reflect steady engagement with peers and developments in probate, elder law and related practice areas.
Early in his career he moved into private practice focused on wills, trusts, probate administration and the legal issues faced by older adults and their families. He handles traditional estate planning tasks such as drafting wills and trusts and preparing powers of attorney and advance directives. He also works on matters often tied to aging: Medicaid planning, guardianships, long-term care planning and guidance through the probate process. He approaches each matter by mapping legal tools to a client’s immediate needs and long-term objectives.
Clients often come to him for straightforward planning and for help untangling the more complex situations that arise after a sudden illness or the loss of a loved one. He spends time explaining options and likely consequences so people can make informed choices. That emphasis on explanation is a thread through his practice: planning documents that match a client’s goals are only useful when the client understands why they matter.
He practices at Cooper Estate Planning & Elder Law, LLC. There he handles individual and family matters across the overlap between estate planning and elder law. His work can include drafting and revising documents, guiding families through probate and court procedures, and arranging for long-term care planning.
Cooper’s practice remains centered on helping people organize their affairs for the future and on resolving legal issues that arise as people age. He currently practices at Cooper Estate Planning & Elder Law, LLC, concentrating on estate planning and elder law.
