About Jay R.

Jay R. Indyke is an attorney whose career has been rooted in New York courts and the federal system. He earned his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1981 after completing a B.A. at the State University of New York at Albany in 1978. Those credentials set the stage for a practice that spans state and federal forums.

He is admitted to practice in New York and before several federal courts and appellate circuits. The list includes the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 1st and 2nd Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is also admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. These admissions reflect a practice that reaches beyond a single courthouse.

Indyke is a partner at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP. In that role he works on matters that require familiarity with federal procedure and the interplay between state and federal law. He has handled filings and appearances in multiple districts and before appellate panels. That breadth of experience informs how he evaluates case strategy and manages litigation tasks within the firm.

His day-to-day work involves counseling clients about litigation options and navigating procedural hurdles. He focuses on the mechanics of litigation: pleadings, motions, jurisdictional questions and the timing of appeals. Those are the practical elements that often determine whether a case proceeds or settles. Colleagues describe him as someone who pays attention to those details and to the sequence of steps a case requires.

Outside of courtroom filings, Indyke’s background at Brooklyn Law School and SUNY Albany contributes to a methodical approach to legal problems. He combines that academic training with long experience in federal practice. The combination gives him a steady footing when confronting complex procedural issues.

He remains based in New York and continues to represent clients in both state and federal matters. He concentrates on litigation in both federal and state courts.
