About Jay Harold
Jay Harold Bernstein manages the workers' compensation practice at Kirsch, Stone & Morgan, located in Newark, New Jersey. He is licensed to practice law in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C. Mr. Bernstein earned his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law in 1985, where he specialized in International Law. His academic foundation began with a Bachelor of Arts in History, which he completed at the University of Rochester in 1980. In addition to his law degree, Mr. Bernstein pursued studies in Russian Language at the University of Pennsylvania in 1984 and in Archaeology and Intellectual History at Brandeis University in 1982. With over 30 years of legal experience, Mr.
Bernstein has represented thousands of injured workers throughout New Jersey. He has been certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Certified Workers' Compensation attorney—a distinction that is held by less than 5% of attorneys in the state. His practice extends beyond workers' compensation; it also encompasses Social Security Disability law and appellate work. Furthermore, Mr. Bernstein dedicates time to pro bono work, focusing on criminal constitutional law for the New Jersey Public Defender. Before joining Kirsch, Stone & Morgan, Mr. Bernstein worked by clerking for the Israeli Ministry of Justice in Jerusalem. He also interned for Congressman Torricelli in the U.S.
Congress, which provided him with insights into legislative processes. His commitment to public service is evident from his time as a Legal Aid Attorney, where he represented homeless children and families in Trenton, New Jersey. His dedication to service earned him a Commendation for Superior Performance from the Trial Defense Service of the United States Army JAG Corps at Fort Knox, Kentucky. A commendation for Volunteer Service in the First Gulf War from the State of Israel. Mr. Bernstein is a founding member of the New Jersey State Bar Association's Mass Disaster Legal Response Program. This initiative has provided free legal aid to families affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks and various regional natural disasters. His commitment to education is reflected in his role as a lecturer; he has taught on topics such as New Jersey Workers' Compensation, Federal Social Security Laws, and Medicare before the National Business Institute.
In addition to his teaching and legal practice, Mr. Bernstein is actively involved in several professional organizations. He is a member of the New Jersey Association for Justice's Workers' Compensation Committee and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) Workers' Compensation Section. He also serves on the New Jersey State Bar Association's Mass Disaster Legal Response Team. Beyond his legal commitments, Mr. Bernstein holds the position of Legal Counsel and Secretary for Volunteers for Israel, further demonstrating his dedication to community service and legal advocacy.
