About Jason
Jason Yancey built a foundation in the social sciences before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology from the University of Utah in 2001 and later completed his Juris Doctor at Brigham Young University. He is admitted to practice in Utah and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
His early years in the profession included time at Mitchell & Barlow in 2010, followed by a role at Helgesen, Houtz & Jones in 2011. At both firms he worked as an associate attorney. Those positions placed him in the everyday work of a law practice: drafting pleadings, advising clients, and appearing in court when cases required it.
Active in bar-related volunteer work in the late 2000s, he served as co-chair of the Needs of Children Committee from 2007 to 2008. He then took on the role of treasurer for the Young Lawyers Division of the Utah State Bar from 2008 to 2009. Those volunteer posts involved committee meetings, budgeting for programs and contributing to initiatives aimed at younger members of the profession.
Colleagues describe him as practical in approach. He has experience handling matters in both state and federal forums, and has repeatedly worked on cases that required attention to procedural detail. Over the years his practice has involved drafting court filings, conducting legal research and representing clients at hearings. He has maintained courtroom experience through appearances at various stages of litigation.
He is based at Helgesen, Houtz & Jones. He continues to practice in Utah and before the Tenth Circuit, handling litigation and related court matters. His current practice focuses on representing clients in state and federal proceedings in Utah.
