About Jason William

Jason William Savela built a legal career that moves between trial work and appellate practice. He practices in Colorado and is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Colleagues and clients know him for steady courtroom work and an interest in criminal defense issues that run from trial strategy to post-conviction challenges.

He completed a J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center in 1996 after earning a B.A. in literature from Louisiana State University in 1992. His earlier education includes a diploma from the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in 1989. Beyond formal legal study, he completed a program at The Trial Lawyers College in 2010 and later served on its faculty in 2017. He has also taken time for personal pursuits; records show participation in a surfing program at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp in 2017.

Savela began his legal practice in public defense. In 1997 he worked as a lawyer with the Colorado Public Defender’s Office, handling felony matters in state courts. That early experience exposed him to a heavy trial calendar and gave him frequent opportunities to try cases to juries. Over time he transitioned into private practice and began handling a wider range of criminal matters and appeals.

He has stayed involved with professional organizations. He has served on the board of Colorado NORML and held a board position with the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar in 2018. His long-standing ties to criminal defense circles include teaching at the Trial Lawyers College, where he was listed as faculty in 2017. These roles have kept him engaged in discussions about criminal justice issues and trial techniques.

Savela practices out of The Savela Law Office, PC. In that capacity he appears in state trial courts across Colorado and in federal appellate proceedings in the Tenth Circuit. His practice combines courtroom representation with appellate briefing and oral argument when cases move beyond trial courts.

Outside the courthouse he has maintained interests that extend beyond law, including outdoor pursuits. He maintains professional memberships and participates in events tied to criminal defense practice. He also participates in local bar activities and continues to contribute to educational programs for lawyers.

As of 2026 he is in private practice at The Savela Law Office, PC, representing clients in criminal cases and handling appeals in state and federal courts.
