About Jason
Jason Power built his legal foundation in Florida. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of South Florida in 2004 and completed his Juris Doctor at Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law in 2008. The academic path set him up for a career that has navigated both private practice and industry groups tied to franchising.
He entered practice at Curry Law Group in 2008, joining the firm as an attorney shortly after law school. A year later he helped form Shelton & Power, where he served as partner beginning in 2009. Over time his work gravitated toward franchise law and related commercial matters, and in 2016 he became a partner at Franchise.Law. He has been active in professional circles beyond the firm. He served as a host and keynote speaker for the Austin Franchise Association in 2013 and held a director role at Depression2Extinction in 2017. Since 2018 he has served on the board of the Carolina Franchise Association.
Certifications and memberships have threaded through his career. Power earned the Certified Franchise Executive credential from the International Franchise Association. He has been a member of the International Franchise Association since 2010 and is listed as a current member of the Carolina Franchise Association beginning in 2018. His involvement in these groups runs alongside courtroom credentials: he is admitted to practice in Florida and in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida.
Colleagues describe his work as steady and practical rather than showy. He handles franchise-related transactions, regulatory questions and the commercial disputes that can arise between franchisors and franchisees. He has presented on franchising topics to professional audiences and kept a presence in regional associations where franchising law is discussed and debated. That mix of transactional and association work has shaped how he approaches client matters.
Power’s career arc is a familiar one in law: early firm experience, a quickly assumed leadership role at a smaller firm, and later partnership at a practice devoted to a specific area. He remains active in the International Franchise Association and the Carolina Franchise Association, organizations that intersect with both the business and regulatory sides of franchising.
He is currently a partner at Franchise.Law and focuses his practice on franchise law.
