About Jason P.
Jason P. Matthews studied history and political science at Marietta College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1996. He continued his legal education at the University of Dayton School of Law and received his J.D. in 1999. Those years set the foundation for a career that has moved between public service and private practice.
After law school, Matthews began working for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission in 1999 as a civil rights representative. He spent the early part of his career there, gaining experience in agency procedures and enforcement. In 2004 he entered private practice, joining Jeffrey M. Silverstein and Associates. That stint in a law firm environment expanded his litigation work and gave him more exposure to courtroom practice.
In 2013 Matthews launched his own firm, Jason P. Matthews, LLC. Since then he has handled a range of matters that draw on his agency background and litigation experience. He is admitted to practice in Ohio and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He is also active in professional circles, holding memberships in the Ohio Employment Lawyers Association and the Dayton Bar Association.
Colleagues describe Matthews as methodical in case preparation and concise in court. He represents clients in employment and civil-rights disputes, including claims that involve workplace discrimination, retaliation and statutory violations. He handles both administrative proceedings and federal litigation when cases move beyond agency forums. He has experience counseling clients through pre-suit investigations as well as pursuing damages and injunctive relief in court.
Matthews balances case work with association activities and local bar involvement. He has worked on matters that require both factual investigation and careful application of federal and state law. He maintains a practice that serves individuals and small businesses, offering representation in contested hearings and trial settings when necessary.
He practices from his firm, providing representation in employment and civil-rights matters and pursuing remedies available under state and federal law.
