About Jason
Jason Gichner built his legal foundation in two different academic traditions. He studied history and political science as an undergraduate at Colgate University, earning a B.A. in 1999 after five years of study. He then went on to Vanderbilt University Law School, receiving his J.D. in 2002.
He balances a life in practice with a commitment to instruction. He is a Professor of Trial Advocacy at Vanderbilt University Law School, where he teaches students courtroom technique, direct and cross-examination, and the practical mechanics of presenting evidence. His classes aim to bridge textbook doctrine and the pressures of a live courtroom. Students and colleagues know him for a steady classroom presence and for translating theory into practical exercises.
His professional affiliations reflect a dual interest in litigation and professional development. He serves as an associate editor of The Tennessee Tort Letter, a publication that tracks developments in tort law across the state. He is a current member of the Tennessee Bar Association and belongs to the Harry Phillips American Inn of Court, organizations that provide continuing legal education and forums for practitioners to discuss trial practice and ethics. Those roles keep him engaged with changes in state law and with peers who handle complex civil litigation.
Outside the academy, he is on the trial team at Morgan & Morgan. His work there complements his teaching. The hands-on demands of litigating cases reinforce the lessons he brings back to the classroom. He splits time between preparing clients for trial, managing courtroom strategy, and mentoring younger lawyers at the firm. He also contributes to legal writing and editorial work for practitioners interested in tort developments.
Colleagues describe his approach as methodical. He emphasizes preparation, clear evidence presentation, and careful witness examination. His published and editorial work on tort topics keeps him current on shifting legal standards and courtroom trends. He participates in Inns of Court programs and bar activities that focus on professional standards and trial technique.
Today he continues to teach at Vanderbilt while practicing at Morgan & Morgan. He maintains memberships in state and local legal organizations and edits for The Tennessee Tort Letter. He currently focuses his practice on trial litigation and civil tort matters at Morgan & Morgan.
