About Janet E
Janet E Moon earned a B.A. in American History from Smith College in 2001 and went on to Syracuse University, where she completed both a Master of Arts in Public Administration and a Juris Doctor in 2008. Her academic path combined public policy study and legal training, a pairing that would shape the next stage of her career.
She began her legal work as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York in 2008. That early courtroom exposure led her to open Moon Law Office, LLC in 2011, where she took on the role of principal lawyer. Over the years she has balanced private practice with other professional engagements and has maintained ties to the local legal community in Onondaga County.
Moon expanded her professional reach into academia in 2015 when she served as an adjunct professor at Syracuse University’s iSchool. Teaching alongside practice kept her tied to the classroom and to emerging questions about public administration and the legal issues that touch community services and technology.
Her affiliations reflect a mix of professional, volunteer and advocacy commitments. She has been a member of the Onondaga County Bar Association and the Central New York Women’s Bar Association since 2011, and joined the American Immigration Lawyers Association in 2015. She took on a leadership role in the civil liberties community as chair of the NYCLU Central New York Chapter beginning in 2015. Moon is also a member of the William Herbert Johnson Bar Association since 2018. Since 2011 she has volunteered with the Onondaga County Volunteer Lawyers Project and between 2015 and 2017 she volunteered with OnPoint for College.
Her career blends courtroom experience, private practice management and public-facing advocacy. She has continued to serve clients through Moon Law Office, LLC while maintaining an office presence that has included Bousquet Holstein PLLC. That combination of roles has kept her work grounded in both individual client matters and community-level legal concerns.
She is licensed to practice in New York and currently handles matters tied to immigration and civil liberties as well as other issues that arise from her federal court background. Janet E Moon practices law in New York.
