About James
James Yang earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 2000, where he studied intellectual property law. The curriculum at Loyola exposed him to patent drafting, trademark issues and the procedural rules that govern practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He left law school prepared to pursue patent work at a time when technology-driven practice areas were expanding.
He began his patent practice in the early 2000s and by 2004 was working as a patent lawyer at Stetina Brunda Garred and Brucker. There he handled patent prosecution and related matters for clients in technical fields. That role gave him hands-on experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications and responding to office actions.
Yang is licensed in California and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Those credentials anchor his practice in both state-level litigation and federal patent prosecution. Over the years he has balanced application drafting with counseling on patentability and portfolio management.
Outside the office, Yang has been active in the Orange County legal community. He has served on the board of the Orange County Asian American Bar Association since 2006. His board work has involved programming and outreach that connects newer attorneys with mentorship and professional resources. Participation in that association has been a steady presence alongside his firm responsibilities.
His work sits at the intersection of law and technology. He handles the written work of patent prosecution, including specification and claim drafting, and advises clients on procedural strategy before the USPTO. He also assists businesses evaluating whether to pursue patent protection and how to structure filings to align with commercial priorities.
Yang is currently an attorney at Klein O Neill & Singh LLP. At the firm he continues to practice patent law, combining USPTO registration and California licensure to support clients on prosecution and IP counseling. He currently concentrates on patent prosecution and intellectual property counseling at Klein O Neill & Singh LLP.
