About James Stewart
James Stewart Cunha built his legal foundations at the University of Florida. He completed dual undergraduate degrees in 1998, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He returned to the same campus to earn his Juris Doctor in 2000.
Early in his career he worked in public service. In 2003 he served as an assistant state lawyer in the Office of the State Lawyer for the 15th Judicial Circuit of Florida. That role placed him in court frequently and gave him hands-on experience handling contested hearings and trial preparation. It was practical training in courtroom procedure and client advocacy.
In 2009 he established his own practice and took on the role of managing lawyer at the Law Offices of James S. Cunha, P.A. He has run the firm since that year. Over time his professional affiliations expanded. He joined several sections and associations related to trial and family law, becoming a member of the Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar in 2011 and joining the Family Law Section in 2012. He also became a member of the Florida Justice Association in 2011 and accepted lifetime membership in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum that same year. Those memberships reflect his ongoing engagement with peers and continuing legal education.
Cunha is admitted to practice in Florida and maintains his practice in the state. His work has balanced courtroom work and client counseling. He has handled family law matters alongside civil trial cases, drawing on experience from public prosecution-adjacent work and private practice management. He continues to oversee cases at his firm and remains active in sections of the Florida Bar and statewide trial organizations. He practices in Florida, handling family law and civil trial matters.
